Betty Anne Benes started her career as a teacher in 1977. She later followed her passion for languages and writing by taking part-time translation courses at the University of Ottawa, and finally began working in the field in 1999. While freelancing, she had standing offers from the City of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario and worked for a variety of other clients in both translation and editing. She became a Certified Translator in May 2002.

Although she had a hand in both teaching and translation for a number of years, she fully retired from teaching in early 2004 and took on a full-time translation job at Lexi-tech International. During her three years on site, she became proficient in working with translation memories, revised countless translations by junior translators, provided guidance that was always appreciated by the junior translators and further developed her own writing skills.  

Betty Anne is now certified by both the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario and the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec. Since returning to freelance in May 2007, she has worked on a number of projects: appeals for the Employment Insurance Commission, a health course designed for offenders in federal penitentiaries, reports for Statistics Canada and a slide presentation for Bayer Canada, to name a few. She is looking forward to the many opportunities and challenges ahead.
