Established in 1992 and located in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District, the firm is led by Sheryl Checkman, an award-winning designer with more than 29 years experience in applying innovative yet pragmatic solutions to the full range of communications and design challenges.
Sheryl has designed and managed projects of all sizes and scope, from concept through production, for a variety of organizations. Her expertise includes projects such as corporate brochures, annual reports, logos and corporate identity, press kits, posters, invitations, sales kits, manuals and flyers. She has designed an intranet web site for Johnson & Johnson, as well as web graphics, banners, jump pages and email templates for Club Getaway, website design for Beczak Enviromental Education Center (beczak.org), Beth Israel Latino Health Institute (latinohealthinstitute.org), The Society for Design Administration (sdanyc.org) and the site for Checkman Design Inc.

Before establishing Checkman Design Inc. in 1992, Sheryl was Vice President, Manager, Design Services for the Public Relations Agency, Burson-Marsteller from 1981-1992. In this capacity, she prepared and managed project budgets up to $500,000. She wrote proposals and made presentations to client senior management and managed a department of Macintosh designers, traditional designers and mechanical artists. She was responsible for design for clients such as AT&T, Sara Lee Corporation, M&M Mars and Anderson Consulting, to name a few.
In 1978, Sheryl began her career in design as a Junior Designer at Michael Abramson & Associates, after which she became an Art Director for the New York office of The BArton Gillet Company. At Barton Gillet, she created the art department and supervised a staff of two mechanical artists. She was responsible for design and production supervision for a variety of corporate and institutional publications, brochures and ads.
Sheryl received her B.A. in Psychology from Cornell University in 1977, after which she attended a 3 month design program at the University of Copenhagen followed by a Masters Program in Communications Design at Pratt Institute in New York.
Sheryl is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and has received awards from Art Direction Magazine, The Society of Publication Design, The AIGA and The Mercury Awards.
